Panacea arrived at the In Town Marina around 9:00am to find the Arden's.
It didn't take us long to find Rein's as well. We launched and began our
leisurely drift eventually catching up with Medin's forming a flotilla of 4
P19's. With the non-existent wind we drifted around enjoying the sun, then
finally formed a raft and let the kids swim a bit.
Around lunch time we saw the alleged Eric Pederson and Clan arrive at the Marina and so began the Pot Luck lunch in the screen tent at the Marina. With a full complement of 17 people and 2 dogs we had a great meal together with more food than could possibly be eaten. Although the dogs would have been more help if allowed!
After cleanup we launched at seeing only slightly more wind (maybe 2 knots)
the armada of 5 Potters headed other way around the west side of the lake.
Arden's Thalia "quickly" out distanced us with her formidable 170 ghoster,
while Panacea with her short rig and dingy in tow brought up the rear. The
Dingy was a big hit with the kids and will be named "Sanity" by her owners.
Long about 4:00 when it became obvious that the wind will not be making an
appearance, the Potters gradually returned to their trailers, moorings, and
home. Leaving the Pedersons and Calvas together. We formed a raft and let
the kids swim awhile. Then a small breeze started up so we split and headed
on our journey around the Island. Still nothing to really move us, and
continuing to be very fickle Pedersons decided to motor the rest of the way
to tryout that new grill.
We kept on with the breeze for another 45 minutes until the captain in an effort to quell mutiny started up the iron spinnaker and motored over to the Pederson clan.
I remember reading some salty book where the author stated that Seamanship was not knowing when to reef, but knowing whether to serve a Chardonnay or Merlot with Lamb. Using that as my guide I am forced to award the Pedersons the seamanship award as they were finishing up with their grilled steak, shrimp, and rice when we arrived. I gotta get me one of those grills!
After some more conversation we motored back to the Marina where we retrieved without incident after spending around 10 to 11 hours on the lake. Not allot of sailing was accomplished, but new friends and relaxation where available in abundance.
